ExaGrid Shows Industry Momentum With 1,000th Disk Backup with Dedupe Customer
This week, ExaGrid announced we have reached the 1,000th customer mark, giving us the second largest base of scalable disk backup with dedupe systems in the mid-market and small enterprise space. Aeroflex Incorporated, a publicly-traded leading global provider of microelectronic components and test and measurement equipment for the space, avionics, defense, commercial wireless communications, medical and other markets, chose ExaGrid for our superior price/performance and scalability to efficiently manage their critical backup environment, becoming our 1,000th customer.
We are very appreciative of the business from all of our customers and we also appreciate the support and enthusiasm of our reseller partners. Our achievement of 1,000 customers and the second largest customer base of scalable disk backup deduplication systems in the midmarket and small enterprise marks a major milestone not just for ExaGrid but for the industry, validating the industry’s increased movement from tape to disk backup with dedupe in the midmarket and small enterprise space.
In a May 2011 report, Framingham-based IDC estimated purpose-built disk-based backup appliances to be a $1.7 billion market in 2010. Robert Amatruda, research director, dataprotection and recovery, at IDC, was the key analyst on the report. He said, “Today customers demand scalable, cost-effective disk backup solutions to solve their unabated storage requirements and aggressive recovery objectives. ExaGrid’s 1,000th customer milestone is a significant milestone and positions them very competitively for future growth.”
Cost-Effective and Most Scalable Disk Backup with Dedupe System
I spoke with Tony DeLuca, Corporate CIO of Aeroflex, about their backup requirements and choice of ExaGrid. Founded in 1937, Aeroflex is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and has 2,950 employees worldwide. Tony said, “Before ExaGrid, our data growth was putting pressure on backup times and physical space, so we needed a solution that could offer us the smallest footprint to back up the greatest amount of data as quickly as possible. We also needed to manage the system with limited IT resources. They evaluated several different dedupe systems and were attracted by a number of factors. ExaGrid’s technology and architecture for scalability avoids the horror stories of forklift upgrades and ExaGrid integrated seamlessly with their existing Symantec environment. Tony further commented, “We selected ExaGrid based on excellent price/performance, the GRID architecture that lets us scale easily in modular increments as our data grows, and the excellent job-level reporting.” They also liked the fact that ExaGrid offered a plug-and-play appliance, so the installation was fast and simple with no need for professional services. Aeroflex also saved time managing backups that lets them focus on more important IT projects.
From our extensive base of disk backup with deduplication customers, ExaGrid is the only company that has more than 250 published customer success stories on its website. These customer success stories and video testimonials represent more than all of the other disk backup vendors combined. Recently one of our customers, Strategic Hotels & Resorts, won InfoSecurity’s 2011 Best Deployment awards in the “Best Deployment Scenario – Data Recovery” category for its strategic use of ExaGrid’s disk-based backup with dedupe system.
We are excited about this milestone for the company and the industry, and want to again thank our customers and partners for their enthusiastic support of ExaGrid’s disk backup with dedupe solution.
